Electric Boxcab

I was contemplating on how big of a pantograph I should mount on the roof of the boxcab.
I had purchased a bunch of N scale pantograph's along with the power units. I had no idea
how big the N scale pants would be. Well here's a comparison with an HO standard scale
one and against some of the boxcabs big brother's. This is the N scale pantograph
just stuck on top with some clay.

This one with a full sized HO scale one.

A comparison with the prototype that inspired this project.

A comparison with one of the big brothers, a Little Joe. The boxcab with the N scale pants.

The same as above except with the HO scale pants.

And one with the Great Northern Y-1.

In comparing the HOn30 boxcab with standard gauge electrics, the boxcab looks rather large for a
narrow gauge model. So I compared it to it's smaller cousin the Plymouth diesel and it is a bit larger.

I finished up the doors. All are installed. On to the next portion of the build.

Robert Hegge, whose Smokey Mountain Lines in both HO and O scale has been written up in MR back in the 60's and 70's,
wrote an article on scratch building pantograph's. In the May 1974 issue he describes how he built them
in O scale. So I've decided I do that part of the project next. Here's a picture of that part of the project.

I quickly made a jig out of Plexiglas. Just two slots to hold the parts in alignment. The jig won't last for 8 parts. It melts
when soldering the parts together. It does proof the concept of design. So the next jig needs to be made out of wood.

More updates coming soon.
