TT Track Work

A redesign was needed for a better looking tie strip than the previous tie strip casting. The answer was to just use one
tie bar on one side of the tie strip.

A new CAD drawing was made and new program was made for the mill with only one side with connections to the next tie.

A new master was milled and an aluminum frame was made.

Finished mold frame.

Master mold and mold frame held in alignment with dowel pins and machinist clamps.

Ready to mix up the first batch of rubber to make the mold.

First resin pour. A piece of Plexiglas was placed on top for a squish casting. Also tested a possible turnout tie strip. Upper left is a second mold curing.

When the resin has cured it turns white. Note the minimal flash between the ties. This was caused by the piece of Plexiglas "squishing" out the excess resin.

Closer look at the cured casting.

The tie strip stripped from the mold.

The flash removed.

First production samples.

Three 9" sections make up a three foot track. The resin tie strips were designed to be used with Code 55 rail.
