Precision Scale Heisler #2

Continuing on. I've completely taken the engine apart at this point and will be starting to gather the stock and tooling for the job.

I was already getting suggestions from my postings on the forums. One
suggestion was to use Hobbytown of Boston articulated joints.
Not going to work . They are quite large as can be seen in the picture.

With the shell off you can get at the two screws that hold on the truck frames.
Note the one at the back (to the left) of the engine has a plastic bushing which
insulates that truck from the frame.

All the drive train has been disassembled at this point.
I also removed the boiler backhead/firebox.

Next I removed the four screws holding on
what would be the ashpan to get at the gears.

Here's what's under that cover. The culprit is the shaft with the tiny gear.
Both cups on this shaft are cracked. Note the part on the crankshaft. This is
made of metal and has rectangular tab that fits into a retangular slot in the
plastic cup on the geared shaft.

Now I was able to get on the shaft with my metric
micrometers to measure the shaft diameter. Measures at 1.5mm.

That's it for now. As I get more time to
spend on this project I'll update the web page.
Next I'll be getting into showing how I make the the cups.
